1. Insecurity as the Root of Mental Distress
• Anxiety, depression, anger, and even addiction are seen not as flaws, but as symptoms of emotional insecurity.
• Instead of labeling behaviours as “bad” or “disorders,” the theory encourages us to ask: What insecurity is this person protecting themselves from?
2. Love as Emotional Security
• Love isn’t just affection — it’s the absence of fear, shame, and judgment.
• Healing begins when individuals feel safe enough to be vulnerable, accepted, and loved without conditions.
3. Reparenting the Self
• Many mental health challenges stem from childhood environments that lacked emotional safety.
• Joey’s Theory promotes “reparenting” — learning to give yourself the love, validation, and security you may not have received growing up.
4. Compassion Over Correction
• Instead of trying to “fix” behaviours, the theory urges us to understand them.
• For example, someone lashing out may not be “mean” — they may be deeply insecure and afraid of rejection.
